Concept for the Acting Workshop Cairo, Feb. or March 2020 “The play” This acting workshop is about the basic theatre work, the must haves for your acting and your acting career: rhythm and focus. It’s also about self-awareness, the awareness of space and of the group. Very often people think, acting starts with playing a character in a theatre play - with the interpretation of different moods, roles and with the complete and devoted identification to the role (Stanislawski). But theatre work starts far earlier. It starts in you and in your body. You need to find out a lot about yourself. It is not so much about the very big questions in live: Who am I and why am I just the way I am? It is more about observing yourself, Observing your body and learning to interpret the signals of your body. For example, when you are sad, how does that show in your body? And will everybody notice, that you are sad? So the first step is, to observe, where emotions are finding place in your own body and secondly to bring that out to the audience. . Furthermore every emotion has its own rhythm just like every character and theatre play have. Even every stage has its own rhythm and every person has its own rhythm in breath, heartbeat and way of walking. We will use all these elementary things for our theatre work. This workshop is a voyage of discovery to yourself and to find out about your individual tools to play theatre. And it is definitely dedicated to the childlike joy of literally „playing“ theatre in a group of people as theatre work is always teamwork. I am looking very forward to going on this journey and work together. Birgit Bockmann, actress, director and acting teacher studied at the “école internationale de théâtre Jaques Lecoq” from 1988-1991. Furthermore she attended courses of Philipp Gaullier, one of the most known teachers at Lecoq school. Lecoq startet his career as a sport teacher, found his way into theatre especially in Mask work, Greek tragedy and Commedia dell‘arte for example at the piccolo Teatro in Milano with Georgio Strehler. From then on he developed his own pedagogy of theatre playing and founded his school in Paris. His access to theatre work is always the body, the wisdom inside, the inspiration, the abstraction of feelings, gestures, and facial expressions. He focuses on working with elements, animals, basic movements, the very sensitive point, when language first comes out. Inspired by Lecoqs work and his pedagogy Birgit Bockmann has developed her own way of teaching in looking at the individual resources of her students. She teaches them to trust in their own skills and talents.
